Born in Australia in the early 1970s Joanne Duckworth [née Barnes] grew up on the Northern Beaches of Sydney, New South Wales.  Today she makes her home and studio in Maleny, Queensland, with her husband and their son.

Joanne started painting with acrylics in her teenage years and completed six months of art school before putting down her paint brushes in favour of needle and thread.  In the mid 1990s she began creating collectable artist bears and continued to do so for the next 10 years.

Attending tertiary studies in fashion design, Joanne’s interest in drawing and painting was reignited during life-drawing and fashion-illustration class.  After earning a Diploma in Textiles, Clothing and Footwear [2007] Joanne continued to pursue an art education, recently completing a Bachelor of Arts [Fine Art].  Joanne intends on pursuing a career as a visual artist [painting] with a focus on the human body, and nature.
